The Illinois Attorney General's office is trying to keep an Alton man from re-entering society later this month. According to the Illinois Department of Corrections website, 50-year-old Michael E. Wood is eligible for parole on April 29. He is currently serving an 18-year sentence for Attempted Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault.
That incident happened in 2007, when he attacked a 21-year-old female jogger in a park, causing her multiple injuries that required reconstructive surgery. He had previously served time for an attack on a 7-year-old girl in 2001. The Attorney General's office has petitioned to have Wood declared a sexually violent person, which would result in his confinement in a facility run by the state's Department of Human Services. According to the Illinois Department of Corrections website, his projected parole date is April 29. With time off for good behavior, his projected discharge date is May 1, 2018.
