An Alton man is in critical condition following a weekend crash that killed three others. The Madison County Sheriff's Department says 24-year-old Joshua Thebeau of the 3,100 block of Hillcrest survived the crash in the 1,400 block of St. Thomas Road, just north of Granite City near the I-270 overpass. The crash happened just before midnight Saturday.

Investigastors say it was raining at the time when the car, which was headed south, crossed into the northbound lanes, spun around, and hit a concrete bridge support, causing the car to burst into flames. Dead are 19-year-old Samantha Cook and 23-year old Christopher Green, both of the 1,200 block of Iowa Street in Madison, and 18-year-old Brittany Ritchie of the 500 block of Thorngate Road in Granite City.  All four were thrown from the car, so it is unclear who was driving the 2000 Pontiac Trans-Am.  Invesrtigators ask anyone who has knowledge of where the victims were in the hours leading up to the crash call the Madison County Sheriff's Department anonymous tip line at 296-3000.
