The process of possibly building a hotel and conference center is talking a slow but methodical path, according to the Alton Director of Development and Housing. While the plan to bring a hotel downtown has been around for a number of years, it was only in May that the latest significant step was taken toward making that happen.
Several years ago, the city purchased the former Great Central Lumber Company property, but Greg Caffey says the next phase that was announced in late spring could bear fruit.

A number of Alton residents opposed to how the idea of bringing a hotel to the Downtown Alton riverfront have recently taken their cause to social media, creating a Facebook page called City With A View. Caffey says he has yet to be contacted by anyone associated with that movement.
