A prestigious baseball tournament that will bring a number of families and an estimated economic impact of $750,000 to the region begins next week.  The American Legion Great Lakes Regional Tournament will be held at Gordon Moore Park August 6-10.  The tournament is the final round for Legion baseball teams on their way to the American Legion World Series.

Dennis Sharp, General Manager of Alton Post 126 Baseball, says it’s exciting to have the Alton team still playing in the post-season with a chance to compete in front of the hometown crowd.

Eight teams will be playing next week, bringing with them umpires, other tournament officials, families and friends.  The tournament will return to Alton next year, scheduled for August 4-8 in 2016.
