An 18-year-old Alton man has been captured by police after about a month of hiding. Samuel Chatman was taken into custody late last week at a home in the 3,400 block of Gillham. He is accused of shooting Alvin Perry on June 18, which is apparently the result of an ongoing disagreement between two different groups.
Lieutenant Scott Golike with the Alton Police Department.
Chatman is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Golike doesn't think Chatman ever left the area, but bounced around from house to house over the last month. Golike believes they have identified all of the people involved in the dispute, and will do what they can to quell any potential violence. He declined to elaborate on the nature of the disagreement.
