The Mississippi River in Alton has sat at or above flood stage for several days this week but officials behind July 3rd’s fireworks celebration on the river front don’t expect flooding to be an issue. Jong Cambron, Public Relations Director for the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau says the river is expected to crest before the event.

Cambron says the forecast also looks promising with only a few days calling for rain and he is confident that the event will go on as scheduled. Gates for the concert at the Liberty Bank Ampitheater open at 5 p.m. with music starting at 6 p.m. and the fireworks display set to take off around 9:15 p.m.
