The Alton Fire Department will soon be offering ambulance services.  The Fire Department will staff two ambulances with the first will be stationed at 20th street and the second will be at the firehouse on College Avenue.  Each Ambulance will be staffed by at least one EMT-paramedic and one EMT Basic as required by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

This measure comes about as a way to avoid raising taxes while maintaining an adequate level of emergency response. The Fire Department will offer the ambulance service on or before April 1, 2017.  Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold told the Big Z that Alton Mayor Brant Walker asked all the department heads to find ways to control costs and generate revenue
