The Alton Fire Department is adding an additional pumper truck to its fleet. The department budgeted for the purchase of an additional vehicle this year and was able to purchase a 1997 Spartan-Smeal pumper truck from the Wentzville Fire Protection District earlier this month according to Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold.
Sebold says the item was included in the budget after a new union contract was approved this year by the Firefighters Local 1255. He says the truck is not “new” but that it is good shape and was available at a good price.

Sebold says the City has also given the department permission to sell three pieces of equipment to fund the purchase of a new pumper truck in the future. Once the newer truck is purchased, Sebold says the 1997 Spartan-Smeal pumper truck will be placed on reserve to be called out in the event of a large fire or if another truck is down for repairs.
