An early warning system for all Madison County residents went on line almost a year ago, and the Alton Fire Chief wants to make sure everyone knows about it. "Code Red" was first introduced to the area when the Godfrey Village Board chose to go with that service, rather than erect tornado sirens. Its effectiveness in warning subscribers of eminent danger is well documented, with the events of Wednesday night putting it to the test.
Bernie Sebold says that should be just one tool in you emergency-preparedness plan.
If you are a Code Red subscriber and did not receive notification this week of the looming storms, you may need to re-register. You can find out more about the system by calling the Madison County Emergency Management Agency at 692-0537, or by following the link www.mymadisoncountyema.com
