A couple of months ago, the director of the Alton Public Works Department identified several pieces of equipment that need to be replaced. That equipment will be coming in soon, with a $450,000 loan from Liberty Bank making the upgrades possible. Public Works Director Bob Barnhart says the street sweeper should be here within a couple of weeks, and the three chassis that will be shared between the sewer and street departments will be fitted with stainless steel beds and plows when they arrive.
Barnhart says the $450,000 may actually be more than he needs, but felt it prudent to shoot high now, rather than come back to the council asking for more later. This loan like is more like a line of credit, so it wouldn't all have to be used.
