The City of Alton is one step away from entering into an agreement with Lewis & Clark Community College to make improvements to a couple of pieces of property. The College's YouthBuild Program will be doing the work at 3230 and 3253 Hawthorne Boulevard. The work on the city-owned homes should begin soon, following Committee of the Whole action on Monday.
YouthBuild is a program that teaches skills in the building trades. Program Director Sabrina Davis tells The Big Z they are using this project to help out another organization.

She says the project is expected to take about 6 months to complete. In other business, aldermen approved the sale of a city-owned lot at 708 Mechanics Street. The full city council will consider these and other items at its meeting on Wednesday night.
