A handful of street closures and a redevelopment agreement were approved by the Alton City Council in a fairly routine meeting last night at City Hall.  The redevelopment agreement will allow Catdaddy's Lounge on 3rd Street downtown to build an outdoor smoking area with the assistance of TIF Funds.  The plan is to build out onto the adjoining lot to give the smokers a designated place to congregate.

There will be four street closures between August and November.  The August 18 date is for the Market Street Block Party, and will affect the block outlined by Market Street, 5th Street, Alby Street and 4th Street between 10am and 4pm.  On September 22, portions of certain streets in the Middletown area will be closed to facilitate the Miles for Meso walk sponsored by the Simmons Law Firm.  The October closure will be to facilitate the St. Mary's Oktoberfest which will close portions of 3rd Street and Langdon Street around the church from 4pm October 5 through 5pm October 8.  A partial closure of the Great River Road will be in effect on November 24 from 7:30am - noon from East Broadway to Stanka Lane.  The eastbound lanes will be closed to accommodate the annual Alton Road Runners Club race.
