In a fairly routine Alton City Council meeting, Aldermen passed resolutions to pave the way for a large church event, demolish some derelict houses, and approve a budget for the coming fiscal year. The church event is the craft beer tasting and barbecue June 1 & 2. It runs from 5-11pm next Friday, and 11am-11pm next Saturday at Saints Peter and Paul Church on State Street.

The legal action would condemn properties at 2706 Sunnyside, 2512 Hardy, 2519 College, and 932 Tremont. A public hearing on the topic of the 2012-2013 budget was officially scheduled for June 27. The budget is now available for viewing in the City Clerk's office, and also online at the city's website. Aldermen also approved the final payment to Jun Construction for the work done on Downtown sidewalks. There had been some question as to whether they were ADA compliant, but after several e-mails between the engineers and the state, it was determined they are, although if they were new sidewalks instead of reworked ones, they might have been a problem. Due to the age of the downtown area, the state is giving the city some leeway on the measurements.
