In its final meeting of 2014, the Alton City Council addressed a number of bookkeeping measures, including the approval of a new tax levy. The levy for the period from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 comes in at just under $6.9-million, which is roughly 4.9% higher than last year.
Police and fire pension funds remain two of the biggest portions being accounted for. Aldermen also voted to abate nearly $12-million in General Obligation Bonds from previous years. The council won’t meet again until January 14, 2015.
