This Saturday, August 11 has been designated as the day Alton residents can drop off bulk items for recycling at the old landfill on Alby Street. The city is teaming up with Republic Services/Allied Waste to allow residents to dispose of large items at no charge. The hope is to give city residents a chance to discard their old, bulky items that don't fit in the trash or recycling bins.
You cannot bring concrete, shingles, construction debris, loose trash, trash in bags and cardboard boxes, tires, and other household hazardous materials. Plenty of other items will be accepted, and some will be almost immediately sent back out, according to Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst.
Again, the bulk recycling day will be this Saturday, August 11th, from 8am until Noon, at the old landfill on Alby Street across from the VFW. For more information, call the Alton Public Works Department at 463-3530.
