The Fiscal Year 2016 - 17 budget for the City of Alton has been approved by the City Council. The budget includes an amendment to restore the position of a second Deputy Clerk, with language stating that the position could only be filled with council approval.
In connection with the budget, the city is changing its sick leave policy. Anyone hired after July 1, 2016 will not be allowed to sell back unused sick days on an annual basis. Mayor Brant Walker tells The Big Z the city continues to pinch pennies wherever it can.

The city is also making plans to change the start times for its Committee of the Whole and City Council meetings to 6pm and 6:30pm, respectively. The resolution to do so was passed last night, and will come back for consideration in ordinance form in July.
