With Alton school back in session, both drivers and children should both be alert to the dangers of students getting on and off buses in the area. The Alton Police Department is reminding that driving etiquette changes when a school bus puts out that arm to drop the kids off at the bus stop and at school.
Public Information Officer Emily Hejna tells The Big Z she has a message for the students.

Drivers are also reminded to watch for the stop arms on school buses and remember to stop in both directions on a two lane road. The rules on a four lane road like Broadway or Humbert Road say traffic heading in the opposite direction of the stopped bus does not have to stop, but should slow down and use caution.
