It’s been a number of years since you have been able to bring your electronic devices into the Madison County Courthouse, but a small change is being implemented that could lead to more changes down the road.  Jurors are now allowed to bring in phones and tablets, as long as courthouse security recognizes the items as such.

Chief Judge David Hylla tells The Big Z he is working with the new Sheriff, John Lakin, to find a balance between security and convenience.

There are some restrictions, however.  Hylla says you cannot record court proceedings.  Allowing these devices is intended to allow for communication.  For example, if court is running late and you need to call a friend or family member to advise them, you could do so without having to go to a locker or back to your car to get to your phone.
