Mid-America Airport in St. Clair County could soon upgrade its passenger terminal. Federal funding will cover 90-percent of the planned improvements if St. Clair County approves a 10-percent match. The St. Clair County Public Building Commission hired an engineer for the work late last week.
The total upgrades will cost $835,000 and a Federal Aviation Administration grant will cover the majority of the project. The work will include the replace of entry doors, lighting updates, updates to the PA system and loading bridge safety improvements. The work should take about four months and should start later this year. The terminal will remain open during the construction. Crawford, Murphy and Tilly, Inc., will provide the engineering work. Allegiant Air is the only passenger airline flying from the airport to several destinations in Florida, and also to Las Vegas.
