The 18th Annual Open House, Fly In, and Car Show takes place Saturday at St. Louis Regional Airport in Bethalto. The event runs tomorrow from 10am to 4pm and will feature aircraft and classic cars from the area and a large display of antique firearms. Admission and parking are free, with food and drink for sale on the grounds, or inside the newly opened airport restaurant.
St. Louis Regional Airport Director David Miller says in years past there used to be more warplanes, but with the aging fleet and the high cost of insurance and fuel, bringing those types of planes in for the event gets expensive:
The planes and cars will be gone on Sunday but kids age 8-17 can return with their parents for free flights sponsored by the EAA Chapter 864 Young Eagles. The free flights will be offered on a first come, first serve basis from 9am to 2pm Sunday and a parent or guardian must accompany the child to sign up, but the flights are limited to kids only.
