The Metro East will not host a new Air Force headquarters. Scott Air Force Base in Mascoutah was in the running to be the home of the new Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center Headquarters. That could have meant as many as 350 new jobs for the area.
Instead, the headquarters will be located in San Antonio, Texas. Air Force officials say they chose Joint Base San Antonio because almost half of the center's employees already work there. Those employees include civil engineers, contractors and security forces. Other candidate bases included Langley, Virginia and Wright – Patterson.
