A computer aided drafting/engineering instructor at Alton High School has been honored with the Peabody Energy Leader in Education Award.  Representatives of Peabody, co-workers, students and family surprised Patrick Goetten during the lunchtime award ceremony.   Goetten has been at the school for twenty years, and works with 80-90 students a semester.

As part of the honor, Goetten received a check for $1,000 from Peabody Energy.  While that money can be used for whatever the recipient chooses, Goetten says he will be re-investing the money in his students.

There is a chance Goetten could be awarded at the next level later this year.  As an honoree at this level, his name is now in the conversation for the Peabody Educator of the Year, which will be awarded in August.
