Logging work has finished behind Alton High School where new athletic fields will be constructed. The entire project was slightly delayed because the state rejected a burn permit from the district. Most of the trees that were removed were sold off for firewood and the remaining items were ground up.
Still, Alton School District Director of Building and Grounds Dave McClintock says the project remains close to being on schedule.

The initial phase calls for upgrading the current soccer practice field to a game field with a surrounding 8-lane track, the construction of a varsity baseball facility, two multi-purpose fields that will be used for physical education, soccer, football, and Marching 100 practices, a cross-country course, and a new restroom and concession facility. McClintock says they hope to have the fields ready in time for the 2015-2016 school year.
