A hit and run accident on Landmarks Boulevard in Alton knocked out power for nearly 13,000 residents in Riverbend overnight. Alton Police report the accident took place around 3:30 am on Landmarks Boulevard near the Argosy Casino. A spokesperson from Ameren Illinois says the vehicle struck an unknown object that fell onto nearby power lines, interrupting service for about half of Ameren's customers in Alton and Godfrey.

Service was restored to the approximately 8,520 customers in Alton and 4,305 customers in Godfrey effected by the incident just before 7 a.m. according to Ameren Illinois.
