Three-dozen people have been charged with various drug offenses as local law enforcement targets heroin dealers. The charges cover a three-county area and a number of police agencies. Two of the suspects are from Wood River but are not in custody.
Police are looking for 39-year-old Ralph T. Walker and 31-year-old Cassandra L. Medling, both charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and maintaining a drug premise. Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn told The Big Z in a previous interview attacking the heroin epidemic will require a multi-faceted approach.

36 people were charged this week, but it is not believed they were operating as a network of distributors. Law enforcement was targeting the distributors, rather than users in this operation.
