The sinking of fill dirt under a portion of Illinois 255 to Humbert Road is still a head-scratcher for IDOT. Last September cracks began forming in the pavement of the unopened segment near Seminary Road, preventing the stretch to Humbert Road from opening on time. While solutions are still being sought, engineers are still confident the highway will open later this year.

The sinking pavement problem is isolated to about 400 yards of pavement close to the Seminary interchange.  IDOT Field Engineer Joe Gasaway says they have been looking into the sub-base, and will develop a plan soon.

Gasaway comments

Traffic on 255 will continue to exit at Seminary until the final leg of the project is done, which is expected to be late in the year. Crews have been working in the area for more than two years, but the project has been planned for about 4 decades.
