The dust is not yet settled from the bitter campaigns on the national and state level from last weeks election, and attention is already turning to the 2014 battles for Illinois Governor, statewide offices, and for the U.S. House. Super PAC spending in the legislative races this year could be an indication of what we'll see in 2014, during the gubernatorial campaign.
David Morrison, with the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, says these groups don't usually promote a positive message. Super PACs spent five figures on some candidates this time around and that was only on a regional or local office, not a statewide office. Because the Super PACs often outspend individual candidates, they actually have the power to define the election, or the candidate, in the minds of voters.
