The potential for winter weather isn't the only thing that could make holiday travel hazardous. Impaired drivers will be the focus of local law enforcement as they continue increased patrols through the holiday season. The Alton Police Department's Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown began a week ago and will continue through the night on New Years Eve.

Alton Police Chief David Hayes says that the number of deaths from accidents involving alcohol is at an 80-year low.

Hayes also says that you are wearing your seat belt and be ready to show your drivers license if you are approaching a roadside check. If your vehicle is in compliance with the laws and you have your license out and ready for an officer to inspect, Hayes says you should only be delayed by about 15 seconds.
