About this event

A global celebration of jazz will reach Alton when international jazz vocalist Feyza Eren releases her new CD, “Imagination,” at Jacoby at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30. International Jazz Day is observed each April 30 in more than 190 countries.

Eren will be accompanied by Steve Davis on drums, Ryan Marquez on piano/keyboards and Ric Vice on bass. The Feyza Eren Quartet will play jazz standards and pop classics with unique arrangements from their new CD. Eren wrote original lyrics for two of the 11 tunes – “Playground” and John Coltrane’s “Naima.” Signed copies of “Imagination” will be available for sale.

The last time the Quartet played Jacoby was the day the Miles Davis statue was unveiled last September. Eren called Davis “Alton’s gem,” and said the Quartet will play at least one of his tunes.

“Right now it looks like ‘All Blues,’” said Eren. “We’re excited to be back at Jacoby and it will be nice to be able to see the statue after the gig.”

Eren is native to St. Louis but spent 16 years singing jazz at popular clubs and concert halls in Istanbul and around Europe. She released five albums with the popular Turkish folk group, “Ezginin Gunlugu,” and in 2000 released her first solo jazz album, “I’m New” with Turkey's finest jazz musicians.

Since returning to St. Louis in 2011, Eren has performed in venues such as the Sheldon Concert Hall’s “Notes from Home” series and the Chesterfield Jazz Festival in 2015. She released six CDs in 2014-2015 with drummer and recording engineer Steve Davis. Last year, Eren was featured in HEC-TV’s “I Love Jazz with Don Wolff.”
