Curtain’s Up Theater Company Children's Audition Workshop

Have you always wanted to be on stage but didn’t know how? Here is your big chance to learn at an Audition Workshop on February 28th.

Edwardsville, IL Curtain’s Up Theater Company (CUTC), a St. Louis Metro-East community theater group, is hosting a one day audition workshop for children 6 to 18 on Saturday, February 28th from 9:30 to 2pm at the Lindenwood University, Collinsville Campus. Children will have a chance to learn about the process of auditioning. CUTC directors, choreographers and music directors will work with children on preparing a monologue, song preparation and basic theatrical dance. Attendees will then have a chance to put these skills to use at a mock audition at the end of the workshop.

Dance breakout - Whether dancing is required or not, it is very important to have the entire body “prepared” for the audition experience. Attendees will experience body warm ups and basic dance moves relevant for an audition situation. Children will also learn a short sequence which will then be re-enacted during the mock auditions at the end of the session.

Music breakout - When auditioning for a musical, one of the most important decisions a person can make is what song to use. In the music breakout session, children will learn about vocal health, along with choosing an appropriate song based on age, voice range, character, and the show itself. Attendees will perform a short musical selection during the mock audition.

Monologue breakout - Selecting the perfect monologue and nailing it on-stage can help an actor or actress stand out and seize a Director's attention at a crowded audition. As such, they are key factors in a performer's quest to secure a desired role in any production. In this session, attendees will learn the steps involved in selecting an appropriate monologue and learn tips for memorizing and performing the monologue. Attendees will also select a short monologue to be performed during mock auditions at the end of the workshop.

Children should be dressed to dance and have either dance shoes or sneakers. Lunch will be provided.
Sign up is open until February 23rd. To sign up go to curtainsuptheater.com, complete the registration PDF and send to Bryon Goeckner at 2707 Hunter's Ridge Edwardsville, IL 62025. For questions or additional information contact Kathy Piercy at kpiercy@kpmg.com
