SIGNIFICANCE: More than 800 female gymnasts from throughout the country will converge on the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville, Ill., Jan. 30 through Feb. 1, 2015 for the 18th Annual Gateway Challenge http://www.wcgcusa.com/gateway-challenge. The event, hosted by World Class Gymnastics Center in Belleville, Ill., and its parents association (GYMPAC), is a prestigious competition involving competitors, ages six to 18 years, performing all levels of gymnastics. The event is the only gymnastics meet of its kind held in southern Illinois.
During the course of the three-day event, gymnasts will compete in USAG https://usagym.org level events including floor exercise, uneven bars, vault and balance beam. Saturday evening will feature the TEAM Challenge, a high-energy event involving only eight selected teams competing on each of the four apparatuses. This is a spirited event with music and lots of audience encouragement and cheering, making it fun for everyone involved. This event is open to the public. Admission is $10 per adult; $5 per child (12 and Under). Three-day passes are also available. Admissions are cash only.
* Note: Plenty of photo opportunities will exist over the course of the three-day event, particularly Saturday evening¹s TEAM Challenge, which is full of high-energy music and acrobats, and Friday afternoon when Level 10¹s, the highest level of competition, will compete.
