HORTICULTURAL HORROR INVADES GRANITE CITY

Alfresco Productions closes its 2014 broadway season with the laugh-out-loud  musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” a production that features a flesh eating plant, do-wop and pop music, and a man who gets more than he bargains for.

“Little Shop of Horrors,” directed by Lisa Garcia Fensterman, will have evening performances at the Alfresco Arts Center, 2041 Delmar, Granite City, IL, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 26th.  A Matinee will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 27.  The Alfresco production features a talented cast and great ‘50s and ‘60s music reminiscent of the bee-hive hair-do girl groups of that era.

The musical follows the life of Seymour Krelborn (Scott Tripp), a floral assistant on Skid Row, who purchases an exotic plant with a mysterious need for human flesh. As Seymour seeks the affection of his lovely coworker, Audrey(Anna Werner), he also battles for control over his increasingly bloodthirsty plant, Audrey II (Jacob Klee/Therese Melnykov. The plant quickly grows beyond what Krelborn imagined and turns into a bad mannered, R&B singing, vulgar carnivore. Audrey II gives greedy Krelborn his 15 minutes of fame, but he soon realizes he bit off more than he could chew.

The underlying message in “Little Shop of Horrors” is something that everyone should be able to relate to.  “It‘s is a story of what happens when you keep ‘feeding’ something that isn’t good for you or other people around you.  The musical has been described as a “horticultural horror that will have you screaming with laughter” (New York Post).

“It leaves the audience feeling just like Audrey II between victims — ravenous for more.”

The. Cast also includes Thomas Stone (“Mushnik”); Mitch England (“Orin”);  Beth Augustin, Shelby Hill, Jaime Klee, Billie Jo Sanchez, Sierra Smith, and Amy Wilson  as the sassy street urchins; and Megan Adams, Leslie Aerts, George Brooks,  Alyssa Upshaw and Denny Patterson round out the rest of the company.

Tickets are $12.00 and may be reserved by calling 618-560-1947, or by visiting the Alfresco Productions website at AlfrescoProductions.org.  All Tickets are for general seating.
