River Music - A Great Rivers Choral Society Concert

National Great Rivers Museum (Outdoors) — 2 Lock & Dam Way, Alton, IL

Saturday, May 9, 2015 (9:00 P.M.), Sunday, May 10, 2015 (3:00 P.M.)

This concert was inspired by the great Mississippi and Missouri Rivers and will be performed at an outside venue. The Mississippi River may be the most musical river in the entire world! Drum songs, folk songs, blues and jazz were all created and recreated along its banks. Musicians have been truly prolific not only in the sheer volume of works about the river, but by the need to create entirely new musical styles just so they could describe their feelings about themselves and the river. Some of these songs include: Deep River, Down to the River to Pray; Shenandoah; Great Rivers Suite, an original composition written by Jean King, especially for Great Rivers Choral Society; and many more.
