New Traditions Underway at the Alton Symphony
Orchestra
ALTON - The start of a new tradition is underway with the Alton Symphony
Orchestra. Celebrating its 65th season, the Orchestra will hold this
season's performances at Alton High School in their new, state-of-the-art
Auditorium. Their first concert will take place on Saturday, October 24 at 8
p.m.
Season and individual tickets are on sale now. By purchasing season tickets,
you can experience four performances for the price of three. Season tickets
are $54 for adults, $45 for seniors 62 and over, $15 for students from
Kindergarten through 12th grade, and free to Alton High School and Lewis and
Clark Community College students with a valid student ID. Season tickets can
be purchased online at www.altonsymphony.org or by calling the ASO at
618-467-2326. Season and single tickets are available at Halpin Music in
Alton, Duke Bakery on Henry Street in Alton, at Dick's Flowers in Alton and
Wood River, and can also be purchased at the door.
Each of the four scheduled ASO concerts will also feature a different Guest
Conductor. Each Guest Conductor will be vying for the permanent position of
Conductor for the Alton Symphony Orchestra. The ASO is seeking someone to
fill the Conductor vacancy left by the former Conductor, Maestro Edward
Dolbashian.
For the October concert, Yehun Kim will conduct the Orchestra's performance
of "Beethoven's Finest." The ASO will perform Beethoven's 7th Symphony,
noted as "one of the most perfect symphonies ever written." October's
concert is dedicated in memory of Ella Anschuetz, an Alton resident and
Alton Symphony Orchestra harpist for many years.
Other Guest Conductors will include Wm. Shane Williams for the "Holiday with
Tchaikovsky" concert scheduled in December, Leon Burke III for February's
"New World Symphony" concert, and David Peek for the "Young Artists
Presentation" in April. Audience members will have the opportunity to meet
with each Guest Conductor at receptions that will follow each concert.
"This is a very exciting time for the Alton Symphony Orchestra - the start
of new traditions for us and our audiences as well. We are excited about our
new venue - the Auditorium at Alton High School is a perfect setting for our
performances. Access to the Auditorium is easy, parking is easy, and the
venue itself is simply wonderful. We are so fortunate to have Alton School
District as a partner and supporter of the ASO," said Honke. "We are also
very excited about the search for a new Conductor. Each of our Guest
Conductors this season brings much talent and expertise to our Orchestra -
it will definitely be a difficult decision," Honke added.
