ALTON (February 22, 2009) On Saturday, February 28, the Jacoby Arts Center presents Adrianna Larkin in a live musical performance with a mix of flavors: everything from blues, to folk, to country to Latin. This event takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, IL. Doors open at 6 p.m. This is part of the JAC's LIVE AT JACOBY: Last Saturday Nights series, featuring live musical performances on the last Saturday night of each month. Admission is $8 per person and a cash bar will be available.
Adrianna Larkin grew up in St. Louis, MO. She credits her writing style to her parents who made it a point to fill the house with a wide range of music choices. At any given time, the turntable might contain Country or Opera - perhaps followed by Ethnic Folk Music. She learned that "What makes for a good song isnt so much style as what stays with you to make you want to hear it again and again." Influenced by artists such as Carly Simon, Joan Baez, Billy Joel, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, Larkins use of lyrical imagery creates an experience that is felt as much as it is heard. Though most often placed in a folk genre, she has carved a niche for herself in a style that is uniquely her own.
Larkin has performed at such well-known venues in the St. Louis area such as Westport Playhouse and the Sheldon Concert Hall. Her venues also include First Night Riverbend and a variety of festivals. She has created theme songs for both radio and television, with over 40 registered copyrights songs to date. More recently, she completed recordings of her original works in Nashville on the Wild Oats Record label as part of their singer-songwriter series, released in the fall of 2004.
